Bilingual Commercial Driver Training
This NO-COST Training Includes:

• Four weeks of tailored instruction and practice testing to help participants
  • Secure their commercial driving permit
  • Build conversational English Skills
  • Learn Commercial driving specific vocabulary and tasks
• Once program is complete and they have received their permit, they will be eligible for a free four-week training that will lead to their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class B
  
• Eligibility Requirements Include:
  • 21 years or older
  • New York City resident (within 5 boroughs)
    
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Currently Unemployed
  • Able to pass a medical exam and drug test
  • Possess a valid NYS Driver’s License for at least 2 years
  • No more than 4 points or 1 suspension or 2 convictions displayed on driving record
  • No Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), or Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) violations on driving record
  • English language learner 
  • Meet all federal selective service requirements

 
Construction Skills Pre-Apprenticeship Training

• 4-7 week full time unpaid Pre-apprenticeship
• Participants who successfully complete the Construction Skills pre-apprenticeship training earn a Direct Entry referral to a unionized apprenticeship program for which they are qualified. Direct Entry simply exempts qualified candidates from the General Recruitment; however, candidates must meet any and all entrance requirements
  
• Eligibility Requirements Include:
  • 18 years or older
  • New York City resident (within 5 boroughs)
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • High School Diploma/Equivalency (Foreign diplomas are allowed for entry into training but only considered by unions on a case by case basis)
  • 8th Grade TABE score
  • Interested in a career in the construction trades
  • Able to attend an unpaid training during the daytime M-F
  • Willing to commit to an ~4year apprenticeship program
  • Cannot have already completed another pre-apprenticeship program

 
First Course NYC

• 14 week apprenticeship program that teaches the culinary skills necessary for a career as a line cook
  • 8 weeks hands on culinary training led by a respected NYC chef – weekly stipend provided
  • 6 weeks of paid on the job training with a respected NYC restaurant leading to FULL TIME position as a line cook
• Participants will earn the NYC Food Protection Certificate
  
• Eligibility Requirements Include:
  • 18 years or older
  • New York City resident (within 5 boroughs)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • A commitment to pursuing a career as a line cook
